  1. Bird Tree

From the recording Ponies and Sunrises

Lyrics

Bird Tree
Bird tree, bird tree
Why you make me so happy
I’m filled with a feeling of serenity
when I look out at my bird tree

Verse One: The Tree
Right outside my kitchen window
a lilac reaches for the winter sky
Feeders hang on branches bare
it’s cold as hell but these birds don’t care
They love that lilac tree and so do I
Sing along now

Bird tree, bird tree
Why you make me so happy
I’m filled with a feeling of serenity
when I look out at my bird tree

Verse Two: Winter Birds
So many of your kind have flown
to a warmer temperate zone
I’m so glad you didn’t go
little birdy feet tracks in the snow
You keep me company with my morning joe

Bird tree, bird tree
Why you make me so happy
I’m filled with a feeling of serenity
when I look out at my bird tree

Verse Three: Meet the Birds
The titmouse with it’s tufted head
Woodpecker with it belly red
Three finches: purple, house and gold
The cardinal with it’s red so bold
Three sparrows: white breasted, house and song
The flicker with it beak so long
The junco with eyes as dark as night
the nuthatch with it belly white
And who could forget the black capped chickadee
Not me!

Bird tree, bird tree
Why you make me so happy
I’m filled with a feeling of serenity
when I look out at my bird tree

Verse Four: Squirrels
Well I’ve spent more time than I would like to admit
trying to deter those little shits
Ingenious, evil  adversary
furry insane enemy
Ya think ya got ‘em beat then they find another way
to mess with my

Bird tree, bird tree
Why you make me so happy
I’m filled with a feeling of serenity
when I look out at my bird tree

The Fifth and Final Verse: Gratitude
Well who could have guessed that a bag of seed
could make me feel so fine
Thank you for the songs you sing
Thank you for the joy you bring
Thank you for all your wild life
Life!

Bird tree, bird tree
Why you make me so happy
I’m filled with a feeling of serenity
when I look out at my bird tree
when I look out at my bird tree
when I look out at my bird tree
